The Uconn Huskies College Football Picks program has only been playing division 1 football for 10 years and the program is already turning into a national powerhouse. The Huskies had a win at Notre Dame in 2009 and finished 8-5 capping off the season with a Papa Johns.com Bowl win over South Carolina, the teams third consecutive bowl appearance. Coach Randy Edsell had to rally his team after starting cornerback Jasper Howard was murdered on campus during the season, three of the five losses occurred between October 24th and November 7th, right after Howard death. The 2009 huskies averaged 387.2 yards per game which ranked 57th nationally and averaged a little over 31 points per game nd that was 27th in the country. The Uconn defense ws a little suspect, especially through the air giving up 235.9 yards per game which was 88th nationally and allowed 23.6 points per game.

Connecticut will have 17 returning starters form last years team when they open up the 2010 season at Michigan. Uconn will not win too many style point on offense, they are a physical grind it out football team. Jordan Todman is back after gaining 1,188 yards on the ground last year and will look to have another 1,000 season and it could be more like 1,800. Robbie Frey and Kelmetrus Wylie provide depth at he position, Randy Edsell like to use more than one featured back. Zach Fraser will start the season at quarterback but his backup Cody Endres will battle him through fall camp. The offensive line is a strength with center Moe Petrus, guard Zach Hurd and tackle Mike Ryan among the best in the Big East at their positions.

The Uconn defense struggled last season even before the death of Howard because of youth and inexperience. Linebacker Scott Lutrus is one of the best in the conference when he is healthy and Lawrence Wilson led the league in tackles in 2009. Defensive end Marcus Campbell will return after missing last season due to academic reasons, but he has worked hard in the classroom and now will be a asset to the defense, tackles Twyon Martin, Kendall Reyes and Alex Polito will anchor the inside.

Just like 2009 the real test will be in the secondary, three sophomores will start the season long with converted linebacker Kijuan Dabney, two of the 4 started s true freshman last season. The Huskies went 11-2 on betting odds against the spread last year, that is impressive. They went over the total 9 times and under the total 4 times. This sports handicapper will say 8-5 again for Connecticut in 2010.
